Spaces are defined by their functions, forms are derived from emotions, materials are defined by their physical attributes, and style is derived from personality.
We decided to engage Leon after seeing his other gorgeous projects online. Meeting up with Leon turned out to be an enriching experience and we were even encouraged to go to other firms to gauge for ourselves and shop around for options. We settled for Leon primarily because of his artistic vision for our house and we were delighted when the fruits of our discussions and ideas for our home turned out to be what we had pictured in our minds – rendered in 3D form. Leon and his team always kept us in the loop with regards to the progress of the project and I was glad that we kept mainly to the timeline and budget as projected. In addition, Leon also spared us his time to go furniture shopping with us while sharing with us his ideas to complement the look of the house. Leon was always on hand to listen to our feedback and was meticulous in his work process. Having heard of so many horror renovations gone wrong stories online, it was truly wonderful and fuss-free experience made enjoyable by Leon and his wonderful team.
With their years of experience and a can-do attitude, going to Leon Luo was an easy choice.
To know our preferences, Leon arranged for multiple meetings to understand some of our preferences and it’s helpful to know that he is always getting my wife to speak up as she can be soft-spoken at times.
We were rushing to move in before the holidays and Leon worked closely with the workman to ensure we are on time and gives us regular updates on the status is reassuring.
We wanted a designed wall and Leon recommended a rugged plaster wall. We were initially worried if it turns out to be too contrasting to our overall design but the finishing on the designed wall despite the rugged feel is actually cleanly done. It added more character to our home and we are grateful that Leon assures and convince us it will turn out great.
The overall budget was kept within expected limits despite some minor reworks on paints and positions on lights and power points.
All in all, we are pleased with the works and regularly appraised to know we are in good hands.
The renovation of my place has recently been completed. The entire 3 months of renovation has been smooth sailing with no hiccups. My ID, Leon Luo has been very patient and provided me with much good advice in areas which I totally have no clue about. He is also very open to my suggestions and never failed to meet my requests. The best part of all, he was the one who managed the entire renovation when I was still based out of Singapore for a long period of the renovation process. I must also commend the good attitude of his carpenters when asked to rectify certain work and there is always no question asked. I will strongly recommend Leon to anyone out there who is looking for a one-stop solution to his or her renovation needs!
This review comes after quite some time, but it’s given my wife and myself space to think back and reflect on our journey with Leon.
Before settling on Leon, my wife and I had visited and spoken with designers from over 10 ID firms. However, when we met Leon, his energy and candour immediately struck a chord with us. But more importantly, the design ideas that he presented in that first conversation was both intriguing and refreshing, even after all the other numerous sessions we’ve had with others. That eventually sealed the deal. But of course, we also went with Leon because he seemed passionate about design and brave to explore new things, which was an attitude we related well to.
The renovation process, which took approximately two months, honestly felt like a breeze. One of the main considerations for my wife and I to go for an ID rather than a contractor, was because we were running wedding preparations concurrently. Hence, we needed someone to really drive the renovation process so that we could focus more on the wedding. And I think Leon together with his team, couldn’t have handled this process for us any better.
During the initial design and planning phase, we took to Leon’s ideas rather quickly after a few requests and adjustments from our part, which of course Leon was much receptive to. Perhaps what aided this even better was that Leon offered to see our flat even before we had committed to him! That definitely gave him the edge of backing his proposals with feasibility.
Once we had broadly agreed with the designs, Leon and his team then took the directions set and really ran the show. Thereafter, we came in again only at the crucial junctures i.e. tile selection, decisions on detailed design iterations. Generally, questions were mostly consolidated and inputs sought at once, which really reduced the need for us to constantly veer and refocus our attention back and forth on the things on our plate. This was also facilitated by the fact that Leon constantly remained transparent and updated us regularly on the renovation progress through our WhatsApp chat. This really helped to quell any worries we had, and also reinforced our trust in the team. They even helped us to receive and set up all our different house items i.e. sofa, bed, appliances etc while we were on honeymoon, so that we could move in immediately after coming back.
On the whole, the renovation process was exciting, pleasant and time-effective. We are very grateful that we had chosen Leon to achieve our dream home and would highly recommend them to every homeowner.
Thank you once again Leon & the team, kudos to you guys for the work that you do.
My own house (Montreal Link). This was the only time I played both roles of the designer and the client. The process triggered dialogues with myself, which reinforced the understanding of designing with context.
Personally I like to work on older flats/houses. Older flats usually has spaces that are proportionate to their functions. And structurally speaking, they are more flexible compared to the newer buildings. This means a higher potential to re-create spaces that make sense to individual home owner’s lifestyle.
When I’m in my 20s, I would say because it’s cool. Now I’m always curious to learn about the variety of lifestyle and habits of home owners. It is these differences that makes designing interesting.
