One of the key elements of this home is its seamless indoor-outdoor connections. The natural materials, and flexible layouts create a Japanese-inspired home that balances tradition, functionality, and minimalist serenity.
A section of the living area was redesigned to create a Genkan — a statement hallway accented with bonsai and pebble wash flooring, where shoes are removed and stored to keep the inner home clean and uncluttered. It’s a practical feature that serves functionality while paying homage to tradition.
The Genkan connects the homeowner’s workshop and main living area, with the latter separated by large sliding glass doors that open up to carefully reveal the inner part of the home while allowing natural light to flow into the living room. This approach blurred the boundary between the outdoors and the living space, maintaining the home’s expansive look as an extension of its surroundings.
