What’s being covered?

When you enter a contract with a designer through The Happitat, you are automatically covered by our Deposit Guarantee, which covers your first 10% deposit amount, up to $50,000, protecting you against a designer’s insolvency.

How much can I claim?

Assuming all criteria for a claim are met:

Homeowner A

Contract value: S$120,000
Milestone 1: Payment of 10% made in January 2021 - $12,000

In March 2021, the designer has become insolvent and no renovation was done.

Homeowner can claim up to S$12,000
Homeowner B

Contract value: S$120,000
Milestone 1: Payment of 10% made in January 2021 - $12,000

In June 2021, the designer has become insolvent and no renovation was done.

Homeowner can claim up to S$12,000
Homeowner C

Contract value: S$120,000
Milestone 1: Payment of 10% made in January 2021 - $12,000

In July 2021, the designer has become insolvent and no renovation was done.

Homeowner will not be able to claim as it has been more than 6 months since the first payment of 10% has been made.
Homeowner D

Contract value: S$120,000
Milestone 1: Payment of 10% made in January 2021 - $12,000

March 2021, renovation works has begun

Homeowner will not be able to claim as renovation works has already begun.

Frequently Asked Questions

How would I be informed of the 10% deposit payment instruction after I have decided to engage the designer that I shortlisted? icon-arrow-down

Once the designer you have decided to engage sent you the final quotation, they will indicate the details of the first 10% payment to The Happitat under their Terms of Payment. We will send you your payment receipt via email, Whatsapp or SMS, once you transfer the payment to us.

 

How do I make payment for the first 10% of my quotation? icon-arrow-down

Bank transfers can be made to The Happitat Pte Ltd for DBS Bank Ltd account number 0720407342.

Paynow is also accepted as a payment method. Please make payment via Paynow to our Paynow registered proxy, UEN 202110301E, or you may scan the QR code below via your iBanking application. 

Email help@thehappitat.com a screenshot of the successful payment transaction, along with your name and mobile number for us to verify your payment.

What payment methods do you accept for the first 10% deposit? icon-arrow-down

Currently we only accept bank transfers from local banks.

Why should I pay a 10% deposit to The Happitat, and the balance to the designer directly when I can pay all to the designer directly? icon-arrow-down

By paying The Happitat the first 10% deposit, we give you a peace of mind by assuring you the deposit is safe till the designer starts any renovation work for you. You will automatically be covered under the Deposit Guarantee where we protect you and ensure that you will get your first 10% deposit back if the designer goes insolvent. 

For the Deposit Guarantee, what is not covered? icon-arrow-down

1) When renovation works has started within 6 months after the first 10% deposit has been made

2) When the first 10% deposit was not paid through The Happitat

3) Termination or breach of Contract initiated by a homeowner

Will I be covered for the balance 90%? icon-arrow-down

No, this Deposit Guarantee safeguard the 10% deposit that you paid through The Happitat, in case the designer does not start any renovation work and goes insolvent. Any payment directly to the designer will not be covered. 

 

Who should I pay the balance 90%, including any Variation Order amount of my renovation quotation to? icon-arrow-down

You should follow the milestone payment structure based on the quotation given by the designer and make payment directly to them.

What should I do if my designer has gone insolvent before the start of renovation works? icon-arrow-down

You would be covered under our Deposit Guarantee if you are within the Terms and Conditions to claim back your deposit.
